Preaching in the Pandemic Vol 2
by Fr. Brawn Sullivan
With the closure of churches in March 2020 due to the pandemic, Father Sullivan hit upon on an idea to “bring the Mass” to his people, since they could not come to Mass physically. That is, to bring at least the Liturgy of the Word to his people, to provide, via the wonders of technology, a list of the readings and a “virtual homily” each week, for so long as the pandemic endured. The first eight months of these homilies are collected in the previous volume in this series.
PREACHING IN THE PANDEMIC Vol 2 covers some of the darkest months of the COVID contagion, December 2020 into June 2021. While the homilies themselves focus on Scripture and its relevance to our lives today, the weekly emails always included more than just that Sunday’s homily. Writing to friends, Family, and current and former parishioners around the East Bay and beyond, Fr. Sullivan always took time in these emails to update his many correspondents on events in his parish, at Bishop O’Dowd High School (where he is chaplain), and among his family and friends, including ministries a far flung as Caracas and Casablanca.
Part deep but breezy and accessible Scriptural exegesis, part historical record of a once-in-a-century global contagion, part personal testimony to life during a pandemic, PREACHING IN THE PANDEMIC Vol 2 is a valuable, enlightening, and unique reading experience.
